The Vivek Education Foundation (V.E.F.)
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Free Educational Centre for the Blind and Underprivileged

Established in August 2010, the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Free Educational Centre at Vivek Education Foundation (V.E.F) offers free education and skill training to visually impaired and underprivileged children and adults. Our mission is to help them develop essential communication skills and become confident, independent members of society.
V.E.F began in 2005 as a small initiative by Mr. and Mrs. Vivek Shinde in Mankhurd, Mumbai, supporting slum children with educational resources. Their work soon expanded to include support for widowed and divorced women. In 2007, V.E.F embraced a new mission — empowering the blind — after enrolling two visually impaired sisters, marking a major turning point in their journey.

Safety for the Blind
At Vivek Education Foundation, we believe that safety is a basic right especially for individuals with visual impairments. Our programs are designed to empower the blind with the skills, awareness, and tools needed to navigate the world safely and independently.
Life Skills & Mobility Training
We provide orientation and mobility (O&M) training to help students understand their environment, move safely using white canes, and develop confidence in daily navigation.
Street & Public Transport Awareness
Our sessions cover safe street-crossing techniques, recognizing traffic signals, and confidently using buses and trains with guided assistance.
Emergency Preparedness
We conduct regular safety drills and awareness programs—covering fire safety, building evacuation, and emergency contacts—to ensure students are ready for unforeseen situations.
